"It warms my heart to see an empty briquette shed filled."

A group of men in blue vests gathered around a pile of briquettes in a village vacant lot in Hakik-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, carrying forklifts loaded with briquettes and diligently navigating narrow alleys and steep hillsides about two to three meters wide.

Ahn Sang-soon, 53, who has a disability, smiles as he watches the briquettes pile up in his warehouse. "I can't walk properly after a car accident 20 years ago. I changed my oil boiler to a briquette boiler because I couldn't afford it anymore," he said. "I used to get cold feet when I saw the empty briquette warehouse, so I'm really grateful that they deliver briquettes directly to me."

The 20 people who participated in the briquette distribution on the 28th were employees and family members of Incheon-based company NBS, which donated 1,400 briquettes to Incheon Briquette Bank. This was Incheon Briquette Bank's first briquette distribution service of the year.

NBS started the briquette distribution service seven years ago and has donated briquettes every year since. "I brought my daughter out because I wanted her to look around and help the neighbors in need when she grows up, but now she likes it even more," said Lee Jae-joon, 46, who has been participating in the briquette service with his fourth-grade daughter since last year.

Incheon Briquette Bank estimates that 972 households in Incheon will use briquettes as heating fuel this winter.

"Unlike last year, when sponsorships were cut off due to COVID-19, this year we are fortunately receiving inquiries for briquette donations," said Sung-hoon Jung, CEO of Incheon Briquette Bank. "We hope that more citizens will join us in sharing briquettes for neighbors in need."
